Canadian Veteran Death Benefits

Veterans and their relatives should be aware of the numerous funeral benefits to which service people are entitled. We advise veterans to investigate possible benefits and make their funeral plans in advance with Simply Cremations & Memorial Services. This allows their loved ones time to grieve and avoids the need to quickly compile information.

Various Types of Death Benefits For Veterans

Among the most important facts regarding veteran benefits are the following:

1. Every Veteran Is Eligible For Benefits

Each veteran is buried in their selected national cemetery with a monument made of natural stone and a flag. At the cemetery, the next of kin are not charged for the opening and closing the grave, acquiring liners, or placing the headstone.

2. Death Benefits For Veterans Who Passed During Active Service

The military is liable for all funeral costs, including preparation of the body, transport, casket, burial, and memorialization. A death benefit of $100,000 is provided to the next of kin.

3. Compensation For Veterans That Sustained Injuries From Their Military Service

Troops are entitled to a $2,000 burial allowance that can be used to cover funeral director fees, casket costs, and cemetery transportation. If the soldier is interred in a national cemetery, then the transfer of their remains is either free or at a reduced cost. This is mostly determined based on a particular circumstance. In non-national cemeteries, veterans are entitled to a $300 burial allowance. However, this may not always cover all the costs.

4. Compensation For Veterans That Did Not Perish In The Line Of Duty

Other than burial at the site of their choice, a granite or marble headstone, and a flag, they do not get any other benefits.
